Here is a great tool for when you just want to sit back and relax and let YouTube serve up some videos. It automatically plays the results of your search back to you so that you don't have to bother with sifting through search results manually.

Its a mashup of Last.fm and YouTube that gives you a great searching mechanism for finding music videos easily. Just enter a musician or band name in the search box and it returns a list of results sorted by song name of all the videos on YouTube. Its very slick and a must for any music lover!

Video Sift is a very cool site that displays the hottest videos on YouTube and Google Video based on ratings given by users (think digg). It has tons of cool videos and I love how it breaks the videos into categories including music, politics, comedy, cute, geek.

Google Just Bought YouTube

The announcement was made just a little while ago that Google has purchased YouTube for 1.65 billion dollars! This should mean great things for YouTube users as they now have an infinite amount of resources for enhancing our YouTube experience. I can't wait to see where Google takes things from here. One of the best freeware video editors out there is AviTricks. It has an intuitive interface and will let you do all the slicing, dicing and effects you could ever want. Here is the info from the website:

Edit Your Videos Online With Muveemix

I've been messing around with a web application called Muveemix which lets you mix your videos online. Muveemix allows you to add music, text, styles, title and credits to your videos. It allows you to edit videos that are up to 100MB in size. Its free to use, you don't have to install anything (other than flash) and works pretty well. Check it out!

How To Become A YouTube Star

YouTube is catapulting people into stardom overnite. The people that are becoming video blog stars aren't like Brad Pitt, Britney Spears, or Scarlett Johansson but normal joes and janes like you and me. With the number of vidoes and vloggers on YouTube one can't help but wonder how on earth these people stand out. After sifting through tons of popular videos on YouTube I've gleaned some insight on how to become famous on YouTube. Here are my obervations:

Have something interesting to say. It doesn't need to be sane or even intelligible but have something interesting to say. It can be anything from juicy gossip, personal insights, trash talking or drunken babble but if its boring then it won't be viewed.

Have a skill to show off. The most common of which is music skills. I've seen some great guitarists on YouTube and some killer singers.

Stupid tricks are always a great way to become famous on YouTube. The more painful the better!

Be yourself, one of the main things that people want to see is a good character.

Sex appeal is one of the oldest skills ever marketed.

Funny = Famous

Comment on other YouTube stars, and remember to talk alot of trash.

These should get you going on your way to YouTube stardom, don't forget the little guy once you've made it as a famous video blogger!

There are two really great applications out there for downloading YouTube videos to your iPod. One works on a mac and is called PodTube. The other works on windows and is called iTube. Both are completely free to use and make transfering videos from YouTube to your iPod a breeze.

LonelyGirl15 For Real?

The LA Times just released an interesting article speculating on whether the latest YouTube celeb, LonelyGirl15 is real or a high budget hollywood hoax meant to promote a possible movie. LonelyGirl15, who goes by the name Bree has been adding new YouTube videos weekly since June, each video receiving an average 200,000 views . Critics say that the editing is just way too good to be done by a 16 year old girl. I've watched several of LonelyGirl15's videos and I definitely think they are way too professional to be real. The soundtracks are perfect and the editing is way too good to be real. Also the background looks like the set of some sitcom, rarely changing at all. If this is a ploy by some professional studio to make a very successful film campaign, then kudos to a job well done!

How To Download Youtube Videos

One thing that I find myself wanting to do all the time is download Youtube videos. If you are like me you are constantly on the go and sometimes an internet connection can is unavailable. Its nice just to have a collection of Youtube videos to watch on the bus or airplane or when I'm camping.

There are a couple of ways that you can download Youtube videos. The first and easiest way is to use this site called VideoDL.org. All you have to do is past the address to the video and VideoDL gives you a link for downloading the Youtube video to your computer. VideoDL also works great with Google video.

Another way to do this is to use the Greasemonkey Firefox extension and install this script. This takes a little work to get running and requires you to use the Firefox browser but is very handy if you download alot of videos because it puts a download link at the top of any page that contains flash videos.
